The Hawthorn Class is our Local Authority led Resourced Provision.
Our Resource Provision meets the complex learning needs of pupils aged 5-11 with SEMH (Social, emotional and mental Health). The provision is staffed by Bradford council employees, who are specialist teachers and support staff with high levels of expertise and knowledge in teaching pupils with SEMH needs.
What is a Resourced Provision?
Bradford operates Resourced Provisions (RPs) that are either managed by a school (School Led Resourced Provision – SLRP) or by the Local Authority (Local Authority Led Resourced Provision– LARP). Hollingwood hosts a LARP.
The provisions are within a mainstream school, designed to provide specialist and targeted support for children and young people with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) . Children accessing Hollingwood RP will be on the school’s roll and will be fully supported by the specialist staff and school staff working in partnership.
Highly trained staff support children in their mainstream lessons and enable them to engage in every aspect of school life.
Some children need more support to access a mainstream curriculum, therefore the Resourced Provisions provide a safe environment for them where they can access specialist interventions, precision teaching, social interaction support, small group teaching, and a bespoke curriculum (to match their individual needs). This support is to enable them to take part in their mainstream learning environment, access a full broad and ambitious curriculum and to access the whole school mainstream experience and an inclusive offer.
Some children and young people may feel too anxious to access a full mainstream curriculum; support needs are matched to the individual with the ambition that the young person will be able to access some, if not all, of their mainstream classes over time.
Hollingwood RP has dedicated space within the school which is for the use of the young people accessing the provision. Therefore, at social times this is a place where children and young people will feel safe to communicate or express themselves in confidence, supervised by trained staff. Our RP has additional sensory rooms to support regulation and learn about their emotions and feelings.
It is important to understand that the RP is not separate to the school; it is not a special school. The purpose of the RP it to offer specialist support to children to allow them to access a mainstream education. The resource provisions do not offer full time1:1 support , we are based on a 1:2 staff to student ratio.
The provision will ensure all pupils are working towards their Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) objectives and that the needs of this plan will be met. Staff within the school have high expectations for the pupils, both within their mainstream class and the provision. Pupils will achieve the best possible outcomes against both their EHCP targets, and their academic education, through the broad and varied curriculum.
The Resourced Provision aims to provide:
● Specialist education and support within a mainstream school to meet the needs of the EHCP;
● Opportunities for pupils to progress socially, emotionally and academically through individual learning plans;
● Access to a safe learning environment within the wider school and the Resourced Provision;
● Space to learn and develop valuable life skills.
